Dr. Steven de Boer, SABIC Sustainability Leader, Technology
Steven has been in his current role as sustainability leader for SABIC’s global petrochemicals organization since 2016. His key objectives in the role are to reduce operational footprint of the production plants and translate the needs of customers into sustainable product solutions.
He obtained a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Groningen University in the Netherlands in 1990, before holding a position in materials R&D and then moving to product development for the polyethylene product line in 1995.
He continued as manager in PE product development from 1997 and moved to technology management in 1999. From 2000 to 2005 he was responsible for the technological staff in SABIC’s PE manufacturing operation in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Prior to his current role, from 2006 until 2009, he was responsible for the materials R&D for PE and PP in SABIC’s European technology and innovation center. From 2010 to 2015, he was innovation director for the global technology management organization of SABIC
