Paul Coby, Johnson Matthey

Paul Coby has been CIO at three FTSE 100 or equivalent Companies – British Airways from 2001 to 2011, John Lewis from 2011 to 2018 and now the global science, speciality chemicals and noble metals company Johnson Matthey. He has lead with the business the digital transformation developing the online functions and applying advanced analytics and robotics. Paul is currently a Non-Executive Director at Clydesdale & Yorkshire Bank which acquired Virgin Money last year creating the UK’s 6th largest retail bank. He was also Chair of the Board of SITA the airline services and networks group for 11 years and was an NED on the Boards of P&O Ferries and Pets at Home when it IPO’d. He specialises in IT, Cyber Security and Digital issues in his board roles. Paul published a book ‘50 Things I wish I had known before becoming a CIO’ in 2010. He is based in London and Norfolk, and he and his wife have three grown-up children. In his spare time he writes Roman military history and enjoys world music and the WOMAD Festival.
