Sharon Todd, SCI

Chief Executive Officer

Sharon is an experienced senior executive with over 28 years in the chemical industry. She has worked for a number of global corporations, including board positions in listed companies as well as with small companies and start-ups.

Sharon started her career with Albright & Wilson plc. where she was for 10 years before moving to ICI plc to become Director of Strategy for the Acrylics Division. In 2001 she was appointed to the Board of Innospec Inc. as Executive Vice President responsible for Corporate Development, and in 2002 became Managing Director of the Performance Chemicals Division, both roles being focused on driving growth through acquisition.

Sharon ran her own consultancy and interim management business for 8 years focused on business development, strategic repositioning of businesses and Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). She has been involved with various industry trade associations including the Chemical Industries Association, and Chemicals North West where she held a non-executive position.

She was first introduced to SCI whilst studying chemistry at the University of Southampton and met her first employer at an SCI event. She joined SCI late 2015 as Chief Executive, bringing her industry experience to strengthen the ties between SCI and industry.

SCI is a learned society that was established in 1881 by prominent scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs, many of whom went on to establish significant businesses of the last industrial revolution. Today SCI is a multi-science and multidisciplinary international community that acts as an innovation hub for industry. Activities cover knowledge translation, STEM skills, policy and strategy work and the promotion of innovation in industry. All activities are designed to accelerate the translation of chemistry and related science out of the lab into full scale commercial manufacture, for the benefit of society.
