Dr. Andreas Heyl, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Chemical Research & Development
Andreas Heyl as CTO of Lonza’s Specialty Ingredients Segment is heading the Research and Technology activities of all non-Pharma businesses of LONZA. In 2013 he additionally took over the leadership for the department of regulatory assurance. The scope of the serviced portfolio ranges from basic chemicals to a broad variety of fine chemicals like nutritional ingredients, material protection additives, highly complex agrochemical ingredients and active ingredients to be used as biocides in microbial control formulations in the water and consumer care business. In his role he is the strategic partner for the long term development of businesses with more than 2.5 Bio USD revenues.
Andreas is heading the LONZA R&D Council, which coordinates the activities of all application and technology departments. Furthermore he is a member of the strategic innovation team reporting to the board of directors.
In his position Andreas Heyl is heavily involved in building up an external network of universities and service providers to foster the flow of innovative solutions from external partners into LONZAs portfolio. In the last year he was exploring the creation of innovation opportunities triggered by the increasing amount of regulations of the chemical industry.
Prior to his actual role he was in different positions in LONZA like project management, group manager for computer aided process design and headed also the process development activities of the chemical custom manufacturing in the Pharma division of Lonza. He was starting his professional career in the R&D department of the former Hoechst group.
Andreas Heyl was for several years member of the advisory board of the institute of chemical sciences and engineering (ISIC) of the Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
Andreas Heyl holds a master in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
